The route is carefully planned out to be one of the most stunning routes to run. The myth is that a Greek soldier named Filipides died after running at least 200km from Maraton to Sparta in order to inform them that Persians were in their territory. Since then the marathons that we all know, are ran and enjoyed all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>So, when it comes to Havana\u2019s most impressive Marathon, it\u2019s interesting to know that it is also steeped in history.<\/p>\n<p>At the marathon, Cuban Andar\u00edn Carvajal is celebrated each year. Born in 1875, he is known for his running ability. He worked as a mailman and was always out and about promoting products. He was so talented that he entered the Olympic Games, which was not easy for a non-trained Cuban to do. He travelled with zero money to the US and even walked from New Orleans to St.Louis to compete.<\/p>\n<p>When he was running the race, he was leading for a long time, however, hunger took over, after not eating for 40 hours, he stopped to eat some apples. He ended up finishing in 4th place. This race is perfect for those who want to explore the 400 years of history and architecture in the city during their run. The route will take runners past the Malecon waterfront which overlooks the Havana Bay, the old stately homes and the Old Town with views of the stunning colonial buildings. It\u2019s worth taking some spare change in your running bag or even some spare sheets. You\u2019ll either be able to buy some from one of the toilet attendants or even buy something in a local bar or restaurant in exchange for their facilities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Know your distance. <\/strong>The distances are in kilometres. So make sure you understand what pace you need to go at.
