Ciego de Avila<\/strong> is a charming place to visit during your Cuba<\/strong> adventure. Unfortunately, it is sometimes overlooked by some of the more popular resorts nearby, like Moron and Jardines del Ray<\/strong>. However, it is definitely worth a visit during your stay in Cuba<\/strong>, thanks to its less touristy vibe and more authentic insight into what life in Cuba is really like.<\/p>\n

Your Cuban itinerary should include this whimsical city for many reasons, whilst it may be relatively small, it still has plenty to explore. With whitewashed houses, all modern in style and a slower pace of life. You\u2019re likely to see families relaxing on their verandas, as you sample the roadside corn fritters and grab a fruit juice before visiting the museums and exploring the city’s nightlife. This is the perfect place to enjoy a laid-back stay in Cuba<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What to see in Ciego de Avila<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There is a lot of history to explore in this small yet stunning city; here are some of the best things to explore during your stay.<\/p>\n

Visit the La Trocha fortifications <\/strong><\/h4>\n

These are the remnants of an old Spanish garrison, which used to divide the province from the North and the South. These structures are quite the sight, having been built between 1871 and 1873. The historical background is fascinating, as they were built to stop the Mambises, who were the rebel army fighting for independence. The forts were built with stone, brick and wood, with multiple removable wooden staircases that each had cannons in front of them. Unfortunately, these efforts were completely bulldozed when Cuban General Manuel Su\u00e1rez knocked straight through it in 1874 with his army. But it\u2019s not all bad news because many of these forts still remain intact, and you can see what the original structure looked like\u2014definitely one for history buffs.<\/p>\n

Visit the beautiful park Parque Mart\u00ed<\/strong><\/h4>\n

One of the most stunning parts of the city is right in the centre at Parque Mart\u00ed. It is bordered by the four main streets of the city, which include some exciting shopping options to explore too. The park, which is lined with tall trees, is full of history, such as the bust of 1920s Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed. There is some stunning architecture scattered throughout the park, such as the Cathedral, San Eugenio de la Palma, which stands next to the stately town hall. You should also visit the Museo de Artes Decorativas, which is housed in a magnificent 1920s colonial building. Here you can immerse yourself in the breath-taking luxury artefacts and art.<\/p>\n

\"Ciego<\/p>\n

Visit the Teatro Principal <\/strong><\/h4>\n

Visit one of the prettiest buildings in the city. This building was built between 1924 and 1927 in a bid to make the city look more cosmopolitan. This has resulted in this magnificent building combining Renaissance, Imperial and Baroque-style exteriors and the most elaborate interiors. It\u2019s free to look around and well worth the trip when visiting the city.<\/p>\n
