Located in the heart of Old Havana on Paseo del Prado Ave, the hotel was founded all the way back in 1863. Nestled amongst Central Park and the Great Theatre, it\u2019s the perfect place to explore Havana&#8217;s magic.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>The history of the Inglaterra hotel<\/strong>: a timeline<\/h4>\n<p><strong>1863:<\/strong> The building was built within the walled city at the time (to protect the town from pirates.) Known initially as Caf\u00e9 Escauriza and then renamed Caf\u00e9 Louvre, it led to the most famous street of Louvre, which was a pivotal spot in the history of the Cuban capital. In fact, this is where Cuban patriots are said to have met to conspire against colonial rule.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1877: <\/strong>The Caf\u00e9 changed ownership into a Le Grand Hotel and restaurant. It was known as the Hotel Inglaterra building, and during this year, they added an additional third floor. It was fast becoming one of the best hotels in the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1901: <\/strong>They added electric lights, telephones, and telegraph communications to all countries. These additions were revolutionary, and it earnt its reputation as the best Latin American hotel and even one of the best hotels in the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1931: <\/strong>The beautiful Inglaterra hotel closed its doors due to the world economic crisis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1939:<\/strong> the Inglaterra hotel re-opened for events only.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1973:<\/strong> The Inglaterra hotel shut once more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1989:<\/strong> The Inglaterra hotel was too iconic to let go, received an extensive restoration process, and opened its doors to the public once more.<\/p>\n<p>The Inglaterra hotel has seen many famous faces grace its floors, such as Winston Churchill. And has even been used in several literature pieces such as Cuba Libre and Dreaming in Cuban. The lobby is incredibly luxurious, with Morrocan influence, such as an arabesque arch and classic green, blue and gold tiles. The lavish gold statues are like the Spanish dancer La Sevillana, after whom the bar is named.
