1. El Nicho Waterfalls<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\"Cuba\u2019s<\/span><\/p>\n

Situated just outside of the unique Topes de Collantes National Park in Cuba\u2019s Cienfuegos Province are some of the most outstanding waterfalls, canyons, and caves. All of which is nestled amid the lush countryside of the 80km Escambray Mountain Range.<\/p>\n

This jungle-shrouded area is located roughly halfway between the popular tourist towns of Trinidad and Cienfuegos, however there are no public transport options to reach it \u2013 making it almost impossible to visit independently. Instead, take a day trip from one of the neighbouring towns and visit the area as part of an escorted tour with a handy guide.<\/p>\n

Whilst you\u2019re here, meander along the many walking trails where you\u2019ll pass the cascading falls and stop for a refreshing dip in the swimming hole, fringed by swaying palm and banana tree foliage. Idyllic.<\/p>\n

2. Salto del Guayabo<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\"Cuba\u2019s<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the highest waterfalls in Cuba, located 546 metres above the sea level, this hidden gem has made its name as the main attraction of the Mensura National Park.<\/p>\n

For context, 25% of the Holguin province is blanketed in forest, 8486 hectares of which is taken up by this jaw-dropping park. Located south of the municipality of Mayar\u00ed, this unique sight is actually made by two waterfalls with 85 and 127 metres of vertical fall, which join at the top.<\/p>\n

The hike up to the falls is an adventure in itself, with two ecological footpaths featuring lush vegetation and a chance to spot some of Cuba’s unique wildlife. Once you reach the top, the view of the waterfall cascading down into a crystal-clear pool is truly breathtaking \u2013 so don\u2019t forget your camera.<\/p>\n

3. Salto de Soroa<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\"Cuba\u2019s<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll want to pack your raincoat for this one, since the picturesque Salto de Soroa waterfall, located in the mountainous region of Soroa, happens to be one of the rainiest spots in the country! It\u2019s even earned its nickname as the rainbow of Cuba.<\/p>\n

The strength of the water depends on how much rain it has received, which then cascades down over a protruding rock \u2013 which looks pretty cool. Visitors can take a dip in the revitalising waters of the pool that lies at the bottom of the falls. It may not be deep enough for swimming, but it\u2019s perfect for wading towards the falls or simply soaking up the scenery.<\/p>\n

Visitors will be surrounded by lush vegetation, so this a great spot for a picnic or a relaxing stroll too.<\/p>\n

4. Salto del Jaruco<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Tucked away in the rural Jaruco region and known for its scenic beauty is the Salto del Jaruco waterfall.<\/p>\n

The lovely village of Jaruco is located between the vibrant cities of Havana and Matanzas and is often frequented by nature lovers for its Parque Escaleras de Juraco. This protected natural area is flanked by lush vegetation and is a pleasant spot for its walking trails, birdwatching, and wildlife spotting \u2013 pay particular attention and see if you catch sight of a native species of flower called the white butterfly! A clue\u2026. it\u2019s white.<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re not meandering the flora and fauna, visitors can take a dip in the waters of the pool at the bottom of the falls.<\/p>\n

5. Salto de Javira<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Located near the exciting city of Trinidad, the Salto de Javira falls are a must-visit for many tourists in Cuba. The waterfall is located within the awe-inspiringly beautiful Parque El Cubano, which is a place of interest all on its own for its hiking opportunities, vibrant flora and fauna, and, of course, the chance to escape the heat and swim in the icy pool.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re feeling adventurous, why not take the 6km trail of Cimarrones de Javira to the falls? Gently rising besides the river, this scenic route allows you to take in exotic flowers under a cooling canopy of trees, protecting you from the beating sun. Once you reach the top, the waterfall\u2019s water dives into a natural pool formed from a huge crevasse \u2013 where you can walk down to the bottom, or jump\u2026<\/p>\n

However you decide to reach the bottom, once there you can leisurely swim up to explore the heavy cascades of water, float on the calm surface of the translucent pool, or delve into the darkness of the cave that awaits at the end.<\/p>\n
