Cuba\u2019s hidden gem, it\u2019s a destination where rich history effortlessly merges with beautiful landscapes, while its vibrant culture and local charm invite visitors to experience the real Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This fairly pedestrian city is renowned for its charming neoclassical buildings, with richly decorated crescents and tile mosaics dating back to the 1910 and 20s &#8211; the majority of which can be admired in the central Parque C\u00e9spedes. The small museum of Museo Historico La Demajagua (built in 1968) provides a profound sense of Cuba\u2019s long struggle for freedom, with highlights including the first Cuban flag (hand-sewn by C\u00e9spedes\u2019 mistress), remnants of the sugar mill machinery, plus the Demajagua bell &#8211; which C\u00e9spedes used to announce the (unofficial) start of the Independence and summon his slaves to freedom.
