Look out for boleros, theatre, dance, film, fireworks and even a marathon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This weekend sees the <strong>International Boleros de Oro Festival<\/strong> (October 2-5) take to several stages across Havana. This year, the festival is dedicated to the 95th birthday of Omara Portuondo who has been singing in the capital since the 1940s. She shot to further fame on the <em>Buena Vista Social Club<\/em> album and appeared in the Wim Wenders\u2019 movie of the same name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"285\" height=\"399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lovecuba.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image.png\" alt=\"Cuba\u2019s autumn and winter festivals - 1\" class=\"wp-image-3934\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lovecuba.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image.png 285w, https:\/\/www.lovecuba.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-214x300.png 214w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Swing by the National Theatre, the neon-lit Gato Tuerto, Patio Hur\u00f3n Azul, Casa de la Cultura Miramar, Casa de 18, Arte Habana and Bulebar 66 to hear performers from Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, and Argentina sing the romantic ballads \u2013 now declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival will pay tribute to important figures in the genre\u2019s history including Ernesto Lecuona, Manuel Corona, Barbarito Diez, Paulina \u00c1lvarez, Moraima Secada and Adolfo Guzm\u00e1n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cuban Day (El D\u00eda del la Cultura Cubana<\/strong>) is celebrated every October 20 and marks the moment when the National Hymn <em>La Bayamesa<\/em> was sung for the first time in 1868. In Bayamo, in Cuba\u2019s Oriente (East), townsfolk use the anniversary to hold a three-day event in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The curtains go up at city theatres for<strong> Havana\u2019s Theater Festival<\/strong> from November 8-16. This year the biennial event will commemorate the centenary of the birth of Cuban director and actor Raquel Revuelta Planas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look out for national ballet performances, too, this autumn. <em>Giselle<\/em> will be danced at the National Theatre in November. For those with other foot skills, sign up to run the <strong>Marabana<\/strong>, Havana\u2019s Marathon which kicks off at 6am on November 16. Movie theatres will open across the city from December 4-14 (<a href=\"https:\/\/habanafilmfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">https:\/\/habanafilmfestival.com\/<\/a>). International actors and directors fly in and attend the screenings and parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Christmas Eve, hot foot it (well, plan ahead) for <strong>Las Parrandas<\/strong> in Remedios. It\u2019s a 200-year celebration that sees two neighbourhoods of the colonial city, close to Cuba\u2019s north coast in Villa Clara province, fiercely compete against each other with colourful floats, parades, giant illuminated structures and fireworks. It\u2019s absolutely bonkers! The festival runs from December 16th but the big night is the 24th.
