Cuba\u2019s national currency is the Cuban paseo (CUP) this currency is worthless outside of Cuba. Once you are in Cuba you can change your currency to CUPs at airports, banks, and hotels. Cash points are few and far between and often empty, it is also worth noting that U.S dollars are currently not allowed to circulate in the Country.<\/p>\n<p>28. Cuba\u2019s ballet is world class: The Great theatre of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lovecuba.com\/destinations\/havana-holidays\">Havana<\/a> is home to the Cuban national ballet company which was founded in 1948 and is recognized as being one of the finest in the world, Cubans idolise some of its biggest stars and people travel from all over the world to try and catch a performance.<\/p>\n<p>31. Cuba makes great Coffee: Cuban coffee is strong and sweet, it\u2019s normally served black in small cups, a cup of this aromatic coffee is a staple in all activities of Cuban life. The usual alternative to this coffee is a weaker version referred to as \u201cAmerican Coffee\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>32. Cuba makes some of the world\u2019s best cocktails: Cuba is home to many of the world\u2019s most famous cocktails, most contain Cuba\u2019s own world class rums, there are over 33 brands of rum and 20 distilleries throughout the Island. Some famous Cuban cocktails include Mojito\u2019s, Daqiuiri\u2019s, Cubanito (Bloody Mary with Rum not Vodka), Cuba Libre, Pina Colada, Run Collins, Platino and the Isles of Pines.<\/p>\n<p>33. Cuba has 4 special holidays:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anniversary of the Revolution<\/strong>, <strong>1<sup>st<\/sup> January<\/strong>: On the 1<sup>st<\/sup> of January 1959 Fidel Castro and his rebel Army Triumphed in Santiago De Cuba and then headed towards Havana arriving there on the 8<sup>th <\/sup>of January<strong>.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>May Day<\/strong>, International labour day <strong>1<sup>st<\/sup> May<\/strong>: to celebrate the worlds workers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rebelliousness Day<\/strong>, <strong>26<sup>th<\/sup> July<\/strong>: On the 26<sup>th <\/sup>of July 1953 a group of revolutionaries attempted to take the Moncasda barracks in Santiago De Cuba which was the second most important barracks at the time for the Batista Regime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cuban Independence Day 10<sup>th<\/sup> October<\/strong>: This date commemorates the start of the first war of independence in 1868 when Carlos Manuel De Cespedes freed his slaves and urged them to join him and fight against the colonial power of Spain, Cespedes was killed during the first war he started, but a series of wars followed on from what he started until 1898 and the republic was established 4 years later.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=&#8221;549&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]34. Cristal is a light brew great on a sunny day, Hatuey has been bottled at Santiago De Cuba since 1927, maybe brewed in the southern province of Holguin. There is also now a bar in Plaza Viejas in the old town of Havana that produces its own beer, Clara which is a light larger version and Fuerte which is a heavier version.<\/p>\n<p>38. The national dish of Cuba is Ropa Vieja. This is a traditional stew most often served with Rice and black beans. Cuba\u2019s cuisine encompasses a wide range of cultures and influences from Spanish, African, French, Arab and Chinese. Pork and Chicken are the most common meats in Cuba although fish and other seafoods are very popular especially in tourist resorts. Traditional Cuban cooking is known as Comida Criolla, many dishes include garlic and onions, but no other spices, which some people may find a little bland. Many restaurants however will adapt their menus to suit all tastes and styles. Rice and beans are the most typical Cuban dish and comes in 2 main versions, one with kidney beans and the other with Black beans, these are known locally as Congri and Morosa (literally Moors and Christians). Popular specialities include Cerdo Asado (Roast Pork), Pollo Asado (Roast Chicken), Langosta (Lobster), Camarones (Shrimps or Pawns), Arroz Con Pollo (Chicken and Rice), Yuca\/Cassava (Root vegetable), Boniato (Sweet Potato), Platantos Verdes (Green banana crisps), Chicharritas (Banana chips) and Tostones (slices of crushed green plantain).<\/p>\n<p>39. Cuba has some of the best fishing in the world. It is home to over 900 different species of fish, of which 22 are endemic and attracts big game fishers, fly fishers and naturalists from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>40.
