Plaza de la Revolución: Havana’s Historic Powerhouse

Designed in the mid-20^th Century, the plaza (which was renamed by Fidel Castro) has become a powerful symbol of the Cuban Revolution. A central stage for the country’s modern history, the square is dominated by the famous towering mural of Che Guevara etched with the words “Ever onward to victory”, which sits upon the building of the Ministry of the Interior, just north of the plaza.

A Handful of History

Murals of revolutionary heroic figures set the scene in this square with the nearby telecommunications building also boasting a large monument of Camilo Cienfuegos. On the east side of the square is the Jose Marti National Library, which houses an interesting photography exhibition, while to the west is the Cuban National Theatre – so, no matter where you decide to wander, there’s a part of Cuban history and culture to be discovered.
