What is health care like in Cuba?

Cuba has one of the best health care systems in the world despite its economic troubles, it has the 3rd highest number of doctors per capita in the world, it graduates roughly 3 times the number of doctors as the United states and is at the forefront of medical science which can be seen with its ground-breaking work in the fight against HIV and roll out of 2 Covid-19 vaccinations. Most hotels have inhouse doctors and you are never far from a medical centre or hospital.

The Cuban government operates a national health system – there are no private hospitals or clinics and all health care - dental, medicines and even home visits from doctors are all covered by the system.

The Cuban healthcare system, borne out of its revolutionary socialist ideology, regards accessibility to healthcare as a fundamental right of its citizens. It focuses upon a preventative approach to medicine and offers the simplest check-ups to the most complex surgery, free of charge.
