If you’re seeking a long-awaited escape to the sun, there’s no time like the present to visit delightful Cuba. Crowned as the “Pearl of the Caribbean”, this twinkling jewel serves up a slice of paradise, particularly if you travel between December and April (which sparks the start of the rainy season) – but it’s not just the balmy weather that makes travelling here now such a good idea.
We’ve rounded up 5 reasons why you need to catch the next flight out to Cuba!
Cuba Officially Re-Opened on 15th November
- Flights to the airports of Havana and Varadero resumed on 15th November 2021, when the Cuban Ministry of Tourism announced the country’s gradual re-opening to tourists since closing its doors during the height of the pandemic.
Air Europa, Iberia and Air France are Among Airlines who have resumed regular flight routes to Cuba, further encouraging the revival of tourism – and the chance to enjoy a splash of last-minute sunshine, of course!
- It Has One of The Most Successful Vaccination Programmes Globally
Cuba was one of the first destinations to be included in the UK travel corridor once international travel restrictions started to lift, with no requirement to quarantine upon arrival or on return to the UK – making it a popular place to visit for a hassle-free holiday.
Why? Because this idyllic isle introduced one of the most successful, organised, and disciplined vaccination campaigns in the world. Despite its Latin American neighbours, the country decided to go it alone and developed its very own vaccine against the virus, with estimated stats revealing that more than 90% of the Cuban population (that’s 11.2 million people) were fully vaccinated by November 2021. But this isn’t the only example of innovation; in addition, Cuba is currently leading the way as one of the first nations to begin vaccinating young children between the ages of two and 10 years old.
It comes as no surprise that Cuba is one of the safest destinations to visit.
- International Hotels Have Introduced Covid-19 Measures
In line with the UK Government and FCO Travel advice, Cuba’s health and tourism authorities have joined forces to ensure the island nation provides visitors with the safest experiences possible. A series of extensive preventative Covid-19 measures have been implemented by Cuba’s biggest international chain and boutique hotels, to ensure both their guest’s safety and peace of mind upon booking their stay.
Big name hotel brands including Melia and Iberostar have introduced new protocols and hygiene procedures to ensure maximum cleanliness is provided, while also promoting social distancing rules between guests to further limit contact. Many of the country’s hotels have created safe environments with dedicated indoor and outdoor areas, introduced innovative digital services where necessary to reduce human interaction, significantly enhanced cleaning protocols, and more.

Tourist Sector Is Resuming
Cuba, like every other country in the world, was forced to shut its doors on every city and beach resort across the island, which resulted in its entire national economy feeling the effects. However, with thanks to a series of stringent Covid-19 protocols introduced across the country by the government, the island is now eager to kick-start its tourist sector and sun-kissed holidays to Cuba once again.
- While the beach resorts and cities are now open and deemed safe for foreign visitors, it can be tricky to know where to head besides the famous beach resort of Varadero and pulsating capital city Havana, right? Well, there’s actually a whole host of fascinating places to explore across the palm-fringed island, featuring everything from balmy beaches to lush countryside and colonial culture, including the likes of Trinidad, Vinales, Camaguey, Cienfuegos and more – each as beautiful as the next.
