Trinidad Destination Guide

Trinidad Cuba is a beautiful part of the country that boasts UNESCO world heritage status, an almost perfectly preserved colonial settlement, colourful colonial buildings, and palaces once home to rich plantation owners, people who love to dance, and so much more. Trinidad is a fantastic destination for those wanting to see more of Cuba; it hosts one of the Caribbean’s famous tropical white sandy beaches at Playa Ancon and the hustle and bustle of its city – for anyone seeking both a laid-back and lively pace on their holiday.

Nature & Wildlife in Trinidad Cuba

On Cuba’s southern coast, your first stop should be Playa Ancon; just a 15-minute drive from Trinidad, this dreamy location plays host to a stunning stretch of sand lapped by turquoise waters, plus two luxury hotels flanking the beach. If you’re a nature lover, one of the most famous places to visit while in Trinidad is the Topes De Collantes National Park, a huge nature reserve where you can hike or explore the beautiful views by horseback. Walk as far as the stunning cascading waterfall and natural pool where you can cool off with an afternoon dip!

Trinidad Cuba

What to see

If you ever tire of the beaches (unlikely, we know) discover Trinidad’s beautiful colonial town and its awe-inspiring architecture. For the best views of the town, climb the famous bell tower at the Museo de Historia Municipal, housed in an old mansion – or why not visit the crumbling church ruins at the Plaza de Santa Ana for an insight into Cuba’s past? An authentic square that’s generally tourist free. Got time to spare? simply navigate the pedestrianised cobbles of this colourful town at your own pace, passing local markets as you go. For a mixture of ruins, well-preserved colonial homes, and rolling countryside, visit the Valle de Los Ingenios. You can grab one of our local representatives and visit the once famous sugar mill of San Isidro de los Destiladeros whilst you’re here, for those interested in the history of Cuba and its trades.

Food, drink & nightlife in Trinidad Cuba

Hungry? You’ll sample some of the best food in the country on your visit to Trinidad – especially if you’re a seafood fan. Tasting the local cuisine is a great way to soak up the culture of a place, and you certainly won’t be disappointed here – from rooftop venues to restaurants housed in grand colonial buildings and even local food provided in family homes, there’s plenty of variety. Top tip: you’ll find the most authentic places tucked away in the backstreets!

Once your bellies are full, what’s a better way to wrap up the evening than by dancing the night away at Casa de la Musica? This popular outdoor hub is a must-visit if you like to move your hips to Caribbean music, with entertainment dotting the steps in front of the salsa school. With plenty of space to dance, plus a bar and a restaurant for refreshments, it’s a perfect place to soak up the atmosphere – you might even learn some new moves!
